Ready to Run

Are you READY TO RUN?

exercise Jul 17, 2024

Running is one of the most accessible forms of exercise, with so many benefits - both physical and mental. But for the modern woman, finding time for exercise can be a challenge, and our bodies don’t always feel prepared for the challenge.

Knowing that you can get up and go for a jog, or run around with the kids without worry brings such freedom.

Here’s why I think we should all invest a little in our running readiness…

Health Benefits: A Foundation for Wellness

Regular running can help women maintain a healthy weight, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve cardiovascular health. It can also reduce the risk of diseases - heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers for example. When we’re juggling multiple roles, maintaining our physical health is essential to balance our energy levels and overall well-being.

Mental Health: A Natural Antidepressant

Running is a powerful antidote to stress, anxiety, and depression. The act of running releases endorphins, often referred to as “runner’s high,” which can elevate mood and provide a sense of euphoria. For women who face daily pressures from work, family, and societal expectations, running offers a much-needed escape and a way to clear the mind. The rhythmic nature of running also provides a form of meditation, helping women to process thoughts and emotions in a healthy manner.

Family Life: Modelling Healthy Behaviours

Being active sets a positive example for our children - so they are more likely to adopt healthy habits themselves. Being able to join in active fun, a game of tag or the like, gives us a valuable opportunity for family bonding

Accessibility: An Exercise for All

One of the greatest advantages of running is its accessibility. Unlike many forms of exercise that require special equipment or memberships, running only requires a good pair of shoes and a safe place to run. This makes it an ideal form of exercise for women who may have limited time, financial resources, or access to fitness facilities. The ability to step outside and run offers unparalleled convenience and flexibility, fitting into even the busiest of schedules.

Connection with Nature: Healing

Being outdoors allows us to connect with nature, which has its own set of mental and physical benefits. Being in nature can reduce stress, improve mood, and boost creativity. Getting outside for a quick jog provides a refreshing change of scenery and a chance to breathe in fresh air.

Empowerment: Building Confidence

Running can be an empowering experience for women, fostering a sense of accomplishment and self-reliance. Setting and achieving running goals, whether it’s completing a 5K or running a marathon, builds confidence and resilience. This empowerment extends beyond running, influencing other areas of life - running can become a metaphor for overcoming obstacles and achieving hard things.
