A scrumptious energy boost full of goodness..
Jul 22, 2024"Can I have another snaaaaack?"
Fancy some healthy treats this summer that taste AMAZING?
Of course it's way easier to grab something from the shops (and zero guilt when we do this - we're all busy people!), but these energy balls taste sooo good, and are so full of goodness with no nasties, that they are so worth the effort!
You might notice too that with these kind of homemade snacks, your brain doesn't keep asking for more, so you consume less and are more satisfied (there's some research on this).

Nourish Your Body with Every Bite: The Benefits of Our Chocolate Energy Balls
Omega 3 fatty acids, fibre, antioxidants and so much more - the ingredients are gut health, heart health and brain health boosting superfoods!
Here's how to make them:
- Leave 10-15 dates and 1 tsp flaxseeds in a small bowl of boiling water (the water almost covers them) to soak for 30 mins (or longer)
- Scoop the dates and seeds into blender (don't add all the water)
- Blend until they have been broken down and start to look more like a paste
- Add 1-2 tbsp of cacao powder and 1 tbsp of oats and blitz for 1 minute (add more if they are too wet still - they need to be like a lumpy dough)
- Finally, add the juice and zest of one orange (or 2-3 drops of orange oil flavouring)
- Blitz until the ingredients are fully mixed and sticky
- Use a spoon to scoop a small amount out and roll into a ball (this is the messy part), then place on baking paper
- Dunk your hands and the blender in warm soapy water!
- Pop in the freezer (on a tray or container) for 1-2hrs
- Enjoy!!
- Store in fridge or freezer (if they're more solid, the fridge is fine, if they're a bit more squidgy the freezer will keep them solid) for 5-7 days
- You can roll them in coconut or cacao powder or nibs for some extra pizazz
*Cashews are a great alternative or addition to the seeds, blend them before the dates, no need to soak.
*Cacao powder does contain caffeine, but much less than dark chocolate
